      <image:title>About Gráinne - Gráinne Mckeown</image:title>
<image:caption>Gráinne (pronounced “Granya”) McKeown is a practitioner of Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture, and Thai bodywork and has been studying and practicing various healing modalities for over 20 years. Following a BA in Psychology from Boston College, Gráinne devoted the next ten years to her study of healing techniques from East Asia. Her journey began with three years in Thailand studying Thai Massage and Chinese Medicine in Chiang Mai as well as meditation in the forest monasteries of Northern Thailand. Along the way, she spent a year in South India, learning Ayurveda, and deepening her yoga practice with master teachers in Mysore, and another year with Tibetan monks learning meditation and Buddhist Philosophy in Kathmandu, Nepal. In 2008 Gráinne completed a four year Masters of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MSAOM) from the Seattle Institute of East Asian Medicine. Subsequently, she traveled back to Asia to volunteer in free clinics in Bali and Nepal, finally founding a non-profit of her own called Mindful Medicine Worldwide (MMW), whose intention is to improve health care around the world by setting up free integrative health clinics in developing countries. Gráinne divides her time between directing MMW, seeing patients in Chicago, and at clinics in Nepal. Gráinne’s healing practice combines many of her skills and interests. For over two decades she has been an avid lover and practitioner of Thai Massage, yoga, and meditation, all of which she brings to her patients, along with Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. Gráinne frequently follows treatments with advice on yoga postures, breathing techniques, qi gong, and meditation guidance. She has worked extensively with fertility and gynecology, musculoskeletal disorders and chronic pain, anxiety, depression, and many other chronic disorders. Gráinne is a Licensed Acupuncturist in IL as well as a Board Certified Chinese Herbal Medicine practitioner. She is also the mother of two children, ages 3 and 9.</image:caption>

      <image:title>What to Expect - What To Expect</image:title>
<image:caption>Before your first visit, please take some time to fill out the Mindful Wellness Intake Form provided. Bring it in and we will discuss your current health issues and your goals for improving them. Expect a health interview for about 20 - 30 minutes, and then an acupuncture treatment for 25 - 40 minutes. Any body work needed will follow as well as discussion about an herbal formula if necessary. Depending on the patient, yoga and qi gong exercise will be given, along with diet recommendations, and any necessary lifestyle guidance. Many people ask if acupuncture hurts. The responses from most people vary from not even feeling the needles going in, to feeling a slight achey sensation like pressing on a bruise. After your treatment you will feel very relaxed and usually have a sensation of lightness and flow. With stronger treatments where pain is an issue you are being treated for, it is common to feel slightly achey for a day and then relief of pain on the second day forward. To maximize the effectiveness of your acupuncture treatment, you should have a moderately full stomach, having eaten within 2 hours prior to your treatment. If you notice you have not eaten in 4 hours and are about to go in for a treatment, have a light snack. This is better than a completely empty stomach. It is also best to not consume alcohol just prior to your acupuncture treatment. Please reach out should you have any other questions.</image:caption>

<image:title>Acupuncture - Conditions Treated With Acupuncture at Our Chicago Clinic</image:title>
<image:caption>Gráinne works with a wide range of health concerns using a whole-systems approach shaped by nearly 20 years of clinical experience. Her care is designed for people whose symptoms do not exist in isolation, allowing treatment to address how different systems interact rather than focusing on a single complaint. Common areas of care include: Reproductive and fertility health, including conception preparation, cycle irregularities, hormonal imbalance, PCOS, endometriosis, low ovarian reserve, perimenopause, and menopause. Acupuncture supports healthy circulation and hormonal communication during both fertility-focused care and natural life transitions. Emotional and mental well-being, such as anxiety, ongoing stress, and depression. These concerns often have physical expressions like tension, fatigue, insomnia, or digestive discomfort. Treatment focuses on supporting the nervous system’s ability to settle and adapt. Digestive health, including IBS, Crohn’s disease, and dysbiosis. Because gut function is closely linked to nervous system signaling and inflammatory response, acupuncture supports communication between the gut and brain while improving circulation to digestive organs. Grainne offers dietary and lifestyle advice to optimize your digestive function. Pain and injury recovery, including back pain, neck and shoulder tension, knee discomfort, and post-injury healing. Acupuncture helps ease muscular holding patterns, supports circulation, and encourages the body’s natural repair processes without reliance on medication. Chronic and complex conditions, such as autoimmune disorders, fatigue, sleep disruption, Lyme-related illness, and other long-term health challenges. Gráinne’s experience with complex cases allows treatment to evolve thoughtfully as the body responds over time. Her practice also supports families, offering continuity through Chicago family acupuncture care for patients of all ages. Those seeking Chinese acupuncture in Chicago often value the consistency, depth, and long-term relationship this approach provides.</image:caption>

<image:title>Acupuncture - What to Expect During Your Acupuncture Session</image:title>
<image:caption>Each acupuncture session with Gráinne McKeown is designed to feel like a pause in your day. Care is unhurried and personal, guided by attentive listening and a calm, grounded environment. From your first visit, the focus is on helping your body settle, reset, and begin moving toward balance – without rushing or overwhelming the process. Initial Appointment (90 minutes): Your first session allows time to fully understand the rythms in your body and your life. Gráinne reviews your health history, current symptoms, daily habits, and wellness goals before beginning treatment, creating a plan that reflects your needs. Follow-Up Sessions (60 minutes): Ongoing visits build naturally from your initial care. Treatments shift over time as your body responds and your priorities evolve. Treatment Modalities: Sessions may include acupuncture, optional herbal support, lifestyle and nutrition guidance, breathwork, and meditation suggestions. Recommendations are practical and rooted in simple living, such as spending time outdoors, eating intentionally, reducing screen exposure, and creating space for reflection. What Acupuncture Feels Like: Acupuncture is gentle and often deeply calming. The needles are very fine and placed with care, and many people notice a sense of quiet or ease during treatment. Comfort and Safety: Your comfort always comes first. Questions are welcome, and treatments are paced to help you feel at ease. Many patients leave feeling clearer, more grounded, and noticeably calmer. Herbal Support (Optional): When appropriate, Chinese herbal medicine may be offered to support your care. Herbal recommendations are always optional and discussed thoroughly, with adjustments made as your body responds. How to Prepare: Arriving nourished, hydrated, and in comfortable clothing can help you get the most from your session. Allowing time to rest afterward helps the benefits continue to unfold.</image:caption>
